An In-House Public Adjuster — Working for You, Not the Insurance Company
Most homeowners settle for far less than their policy entitles them to after storm damage. IToch Roofing has a licensed Public Adjuster on staff who represents your interests through every step of the claims process.
What Is a Public Adjuster — and Why Does It Matter?
When you file an insurance claim for storm damage to your roof, your insurance company sends out an adjuster to inspect the damage and determine how much the company will pay. That adjuster is employed by — and paid by — the insurance company. Their professional incentive is to settle claims as efficiently as possible, which does not always mean as generously as possible for you.
A Public Adjuster is a licensed insurance professional who represents the policyholder — you — rather than the insurer. In Illinois, Public Adjusters must be licensed by the Department of Insurance and are legally obligated to act in the policyholder's best interest. They understand insurance policy language at the level of a professional who works with it every day, they know how to identify and document all covered damage items, and they negotiate the settlement with the insurance company on your behalf. Having a Public Adjuster in your corner is the insurance industry's equivalent of having an attorney — it levels a playing field that otherwise strongly favors the insurer.
Most homeowners who file storm damage claims without professional representation receive settlements that undercount the damage. This happens for several reasons. Insurance company adjusters may not get on the roof at all, or may conduct a cursory inspection that misses hail bruising, subtly wind-damaged shingles, and compromised flashing. Adjuster reports may exclude line items — proper ventilation restoration, code-required upgrades, interior damage from water intrusion — that a thorough claim should include. And without professional negotiation, an underpayment notice often goes unchallenged because homeowners do not know what they are entitled to.
IToch Roofing is the only roofing contractor serving the North Shore with a Public Adjuster on staff. This is not a service we outsource or refer out — it is built into how we handle storm damage projects. When you call us after a hail or wind event, you get both the roofing expertise to assess and restore your roof and the insurance expertise to make sure you are paid fairly for the work.
We handle claims involving hail damage to shingles, gutters, siding, and skylights; wind damage including missing shingles, lifted sections, and torn flashings; damage from falling trees and branches; and ice dam damage from severe winter weather. We also assist homeowners who have received underpaid settlements from prior claims and want to request a reinspection or supplement.
Our approach is to document everything thoroughly before any work begins — photographs of every impact point, soft metal strikes to confirm hail size, interior water damage, and a complete written scope of the restoration work required. This documentation package becomes the foundation of your claim and gives us the evidence needed to negotiate a full settlement. Call 224-619-5570 for a free damage assessment.

How the Insurance Claims Process Works with IToch
Free Damage Inspection
We inspect your roof and exterior for all storm-related damage. We document everything with photographs — every impact point, soft metal strike, compromised shingle, and affected area.
Claim Filing & Documentation Package
Our Public Adjuster prepares a thorough documentation package and assists you in filing your claim. We frame the claim correctly from the start — a well-documented initial filing sets the tone for the entire process.
Insurance Adjuster Meeting
We attend the insurance company's adjuster visit with you. Our Public Adjuster ensures all damage is noted, asks the right questions, and advocates for a scope that accurately reflects what a complete restoration requires.
Negotiation & Supplementing
If the initial offer is insufficient, our Public Adjuster negotiates with the insurance company — supplementing the claim with additional documentation, cost justification, and policy analysis as needed.
Restoration
Once the claim is settled, IToch Roofing performs the complete restoration — roof, gutters, siding, or whatever the storm damaged — using premium materials and backed by our workmanship warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Public Adjuster and an insurance adjuster?
An insurance adjuster (also called a company adjuster or staff adjuster) is employed by and works for the insurance company. Their job is to evaluate claims and settle them on behalf of the insurer. A Public Adjuster is a licensed professional who is hired by and works exclusively for the policyholder. In Illinois, Public Adjusters are licensed by the Department of Insurance and are legally required to act in the policyholder's best interest. They review the policy, document damage thoroughly, prepare the claim, and negotiate the settlement — all on your behalf.
Does using a Public Adjuster cost me anything?
IToch Roofing integrates our Public Adjuster services into our storm damage and insurance claim projects — when you choose IToch for the restoration, the claims advocacy is part of what we provide. There is no separate fee for our Public Adjuster services when we are handling the restoration project. We can discuss specific arrangements during your free damage assessment.
What if I already filed a claim and the settlement seems too low?
You may have more options than you realize. Insurance policies typically allow for re-inspection requests, appraisal processes, and supplemental claims when additional damage is discovered or when the original scope was incomplete. Our Public Adjuster can review your existing settlement, identify what was missed or undervalued, and pursue a supplement. Call us and describe your situation — we can tell you whether we think there is room to improve your settlement.
How long does the insurance claims process typically take?
A straightforward claim with a cooperative insurer may be settled in two to four weeks. More complex claims or situations where negotiation is required may take six to twelve weeks. Emergency temporary protection and any urgent repairs can typically be addressed much sooner. We communicate with you throughout the process so you are never wondering where things stand.
What types of damage does homeowner's insurance cover?
Standard homeowner's insurance policies cover sudden, accidental damage from named perils — which typically includes hail, wind, lightning, falling objects (trees), and fire. They do not cover gradual deterioration, lack of maintenance, or flooding (which requires separate flood insurance). Every policy is different in its specific terms, exclusions, and deductibles. Our Public Adjuster reviews your specific policy as part of assessing your claim.
